class D audio amplifier operation at low temperature

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5706A

TAS5706A  is specified for temperature above 0°C.

I would like to know what could be degraded at -20°C and to what extent !

I need to be able to start at this temperature.

I expect this limitation to be due to the internal Oscillator.

Is it possible not to use this oscillator ( using MCLK ) to overcome the low temperature limitation.

If yes, what would be the lowest temperature at which this component could work.

thank you for your answer.

  • Hi Romain Le Guen,

The TAS5706A  is a consumer device. It is rated down to zero Celsius. There is no guarantee on any of the devices' functions will operate correctly below 0 Celsius. What is your application and specifications for your amplifier? Maybe, we can find something that works for your application.

  • My application is audio in airplane.

temperature range is -20°C to +70°C. I should be able to start at -20°C.

I know about class D amplifier with analog input that should work at low temperature.

But it would be easier for me to use I2S input.

is there any component with I2S input that would work at temperature below 0°C ?

  • Hi, Romain,

My personal belief is our parts should work fine at -20C.

HOWEVER, they were not designed, characterized, nor tested for operation below 0C, so we can't guarantee it. You would have to run some tests to see if you think they'd work, and then do some kind of 100% testing to guarantee for yourself that all the parts we ship you work okay in your "beyond the data sheet" usage.
