TLV320AIC3256: I can supply the TLV320AIC3256 with the MCLK signal from a 12MHz oscillator

Part Number: TLV320AIC3256

Hi TI

I can supply the TLV320AIC3256 with the MCLK signal from a 12MHz oscillator, while the WCLK and BCLK signals are supplied from the host MCU.

Would a frequency of 12MHz be fine, or should I use another frequency, such as 12.288MHz?

As an alternative, can I leave MCLK disconnected and use PCM instead of I2S?

Thanks very much.

Best regards.

  • Hi,

12.288MHz would be preferred since it is an audio multiple.

This device only supports I2S, it does not support PCM.

    Best regards,

  • Hello Jeff,

    Sincerely thanks very much,

So, can I supply MCLK from an external oscillator with a frequency of 12.288 MHz?
I am a little confused about PCM because section 10.3.6 of the datasheet says that it supports PCM. Could you please confirm this for me? This is an important point because the host I am going to use is PCM.

Sincerely, thanks very much. Best regards
