TAS2572: TAS2572 amplifier playback w/ data injection through Ext Audio Source Interface - I2S

Part Number: TAS2572
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TEST2

Many thanks to Wenbin Li1 for all the support for the audio playback through TI USB drivers. Ref

This request has been created for support on Ext. ASI data injection connecting Ext host I2S lines to Amp AC-MB board I2S lines. The standalone tests mentioned below in Test1 and Test2 are good however, the data does not look good in the integration test as mentioned in Test3. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

Test1: Source: TI-USB Audio (24-bit, 48kHz audio played through the USB driver)

  • I2S lines are observed on TIAmp board @SBCLK1, FSYNC, SDIN1 on TI-Amp board
  • BCLK=12.5MHz (= 8-ch * 32-bits * 48kHz), WS=48kHz, Data=Looks good

Test2: Source: Host Platform Audio (16-bit, 48kHz audio)

  • I2S lines are observed on host platform @CLK, WS, D0 on Host I2S pins
  • BCLK=1.5 MHz(=2-ch * 16-bits * 48kHz), WS=48kHz, Data=Looks good

Test3: Host I2S lines connected to TI-AMP extension AC-MB board

  • I2S lines connected to AC-MB J7: BCLK, FSYNC, DIN1 for data injection and audio source set to ExtASI[S1:S2=X:OFF]
  • I2S lines (output) are observed on TIAmp board @CLK, WS, D0 on Host I2S pins
  • BCLK=1.5 MHz(=2-ch * 16-bits * 48kHz), WS=48kHz, Data=Does not look good

  • Hi Raj,

Please share a capture of the EVM and AC-MB jumper settings just to double check everything is OK.

Have you inspected the same pins with S1 and S2 set for ext ASI and not feeding any external signal? Do you see noise on the data trace in that case?

Alternatively, you may use the ASI headers on the EVM itself rather than AC-MB. Note that you still have to set S1 and S2 for ext ASI.

  • Hey Ivan,

    Quick update -

    1) There is no noise observed on the line when ExtASI was set w/ external signal.

    2) As the BCLK and WS were good, just moved the data lines to the Amp board. It worked when connected to SDIN2.. The signal is little noisier but at least, it works. The OC hitting quite sometime and I have reduced the vol level and doing power on/off on PPC3

Is there a register that can be set to avoid OC and increate the speaker protection threshold? Appreciate if you can provide the datasheet w/ register description.

    Thanks,

    Rj

  • Hi Rj,

Regarding the OC protection, you can try disabling the AVDD bridge feature or increasing the Hysteresis Timer to the maximum value. For some speakers the current peaks can cause OC to trigger when this feature is enabled.

  • Hey Ivan, Can you please share the datasheet with register description?

I tried the above settings, somehow did not work, will try again and let you know. Thank you.

  • Hi Raj,

I've sent you a connect request, please accept to follow up with the data sheet.

Do you mean the device still trigger OC protection? Or the device did not work at all?
