AIC3204 clicking/pop noise during startup & codec configuration.

Hi all,

Seems one of the things I still haven't truly mastered yet is the soft-start / correct sequencing (or other) of the codec supplies and signal routing so as to avoid the annoying clicking/pop noise during start-up. This is evidently due to the various decoupling capacitors on the codec Head Phones outputs. The caps are at around 100uF and the HPL & HPR outputs are in single-ended configuration feeding a standard head phone. At this stage I am only using the coded in mono mode and only the HP left side is actually activated and unmuted at the start.

Even though I am following HP click/pop minimisation as recommended in the data sheet, there still is quite an audible/loud pop at the start-up of the codec. The HP I am using are of a rather good quality, and this might make it more obvious to the listener, however I was hoping to minimise it if not completely get rid of it.

Does any body know of the correct sequence and/or optimal soft start-up so as to avoid this terrible click/pops on start-up ? I am sure there are more than one way of doing it, but one that works with HP caps of > 47uF and 8KHz sampling rate is more closely to my current config. The examples given in the various data sheets do not seem to work so well (or I am just obviously missing something there).

Any help on this problem would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, MM
