PCM2901: Regarding USB Audio

Hi team,

My customer is considering adopting an audio codec. Their required specifications are as follows:

  • Line-in: 1 stereo channel

  • Line-out: 1 stereo channel

The PCM2901 meets these specifications, but the customer asked whether there is a successor device. I have proposed TAC5112 and TLV320AIC3204; however, they would like to use USB Audio.

Questions:

  • Are there any devices that support USB Audio and can be considered a successor to the PCM2901?

  • If there are no concerns regarding the supply of the PCM2901, we could continue using it, but are there any risks related to future lead times or potential EOL?

  • It seems that there are not many new USB Audio products being released. What is the reason for this trend?

    Hi Kyohei-san,

    The only successor to PCM2901 would be PCM2912A but it only supports mono ADC which cannot meet customer requirement.

    There is no risk of EOL to this device. We plan on continuing to support it and produce it even for new products and designs.

    We have chosen to invest in other areas. USB 3.0 / C does not require us to refresh this device because of its backwards compatibility. However we do know there is room to improve the performance. Once the opportunity is right we will add to this portfolio again.
