PCMD3180: Does the PCMD3180 support daisy-chaining 32 MICs? Are there any requirements for sampling rate and bit depth?

I didn't see any mention of daisy chain cascading in the specification for PCMD3180. I would like to inquire whether PCMD3180 supports a daisy chain of 32 MICs (i.e., four PCMD3180s cascaded in a daisy chain, with each connected to eight MICs). If it does, is it better to connect 32 MICs using the Shared Split TDM Connection method or a daisy chain? Are there any requirements for adoption rate and bit width for 32 MICs?image.png

  • Yes, this is possible. The main concern is the BCLK must adhere to the equation 24.576MHz > BCLK > # channels * bit depth * FSYNC.

    With 32 channels, this restricts the supported bit depth and FSYNC options to this table:

    For example, for a 48kHz FSYNC, your max bit depth can be 16bits.

    Either shared TDM or daisy-chain should be fine. With shared TDM, you will have to add a unique TX_OFFSET (register 0x08) to each device so there is no bus contention.
