Per specification, Figure 7-24  when HP and line- out are both in single ended configuration, both carry the same stereo signal on the P and M pins.

Using the TAC5212 driver branch 5.15, differential output on both HP P+M and LO P+M is correct. Both outputs show differential signals (P/M levels are inverted). However when changing to single ended (no matter HP,Line or 4Ohm) , only the HP Left channel (P) has audio. the Line out M&P  and HP right (M) do not output any  signal. Measured on TRS output and DAC outputs directly.

  • The register settings are in the ALSA amixer dump above. the I2C address is used by the driver, so i2c dump is forced dump. The schematic as follows.

    All the in series in and outputs are 1 uF.  C218 and C219 are also 1uF.  C222 is 0R to GND. Other caps and resistors are not assembled (yet) 

    The TAC5212 is in slave mode (as  the  TAC5x1x branch 5.15 driver only supports that mode) so MCLK and GPO1 are not used .

  • The device seems to be powered down in both the regdump and mixer dump. COuld we get the data when the device is powered on and running ? 

  • This post was updated a few times. This is the final  one. (Sorry it is very very late here and made a few mistakes)

    Here are the dumps here when this is running as follows. The VREF is around 2.4V when running, and returns to 0 a few seconds after stopping playback. I looked at the driver and it seems to ignore the "STANDBY" commands from the kernel call to the driver.  (as in a previous post there is a switch statement and for "STANDBY" it just show ""break;" _ Not sure how it gets into standby. Perhaps default by itself (?)

    P.S also notice that when switching back from headphone single ended to line out differential there is no outputs anymore.  The board needs to be rebooted the board to get the analog output back. (assuming this involves a soft rest of the CODEC that does that ). in contrast, the switch back to Line out - differential seems to work after setting headphone-differential or line-out stereo single ended.

  • Thanks for the regdump. What is the final requirement which we are looking for here ? Are you looking for 4 separate single ended outputs or need the same output as in OUT1P and OUT1M in OUT2P and OUT2M ?

  • This is in I2S mode connect to and DAI/I2S MPU

    AFAIK. 4 single ended independent output signal is only possible in PDM mode ?

    The requirement is that the user can chose between

    1. OUT1 as Left and OUT2 as Right differential line out level

    2. OUT1 as left and  OUT2 as right as single ended  (OUTP or OUTM) line level

    3. OUT1 and OUT2 single ended stereo line out line level  (as I understand OUT1 & 2 will carry the audio)

    4. OUT1 and OUT2 stereo single ended headphone out  (as I understand OUT1 & 2 will carry the same audio) [This topic]

    5. OUT2 as line-out stereo and OUT1 headphone stereo ( (as I understand OUT1 & 2 will carry the same audio)

    I found the reason, The speaker scripts sets the volume at 100, then there is noise of around 140mVp-p. so changing back to line out, there still was no signal becaus that script did not set the volume. 

    For the headphone, at 200 there is a clear analog sine wave output of 1.8Vp-p .At 255 the sine  wave playback becomes a square wave at 1.72Vp-p.

    Is that right ?. The outputs only have a series capacitor. no resistors or anything else.

  • I discussed internally, we are not sure what you're expecting for 3 and 4. Are we expecting OUT1P, OUT1M and OUT2P OUT2M to be same copy for your case ? 

    Could you please try the following patches see if your requirement is addressed ?

  • I2S mode only carries two audio streams (if I am not wrong. ) , thus OUT1P and OUT2P  (left audio) would be the same as well as OUT1M and OUT2M (right channel audio). Is that assumption incorrect ? .  P.S: I am not able to test this right now,because the board has been sent to the platform provider today for the TAC5212 glitch failure analysis issue (on another thread). I will test this once the board returns.

  • Currently what goes to OUT2P/M seems to be controlled via playback mixer. More information is here - https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaaer9/slaaer9.pdf - section "3.1 Main ASI Mixer". 2nd patch is based on the same. Please try and let us know.
