Transmission problem with CC8531DK Headset

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC8531

Hello,

I am trying to use the CC8531DK HEADSET to transmit audio from my laptop using a master in the "USB stereo soundcard" configuration to a slave card in the "generic stereo output" configuration that i am listening with headphones.

So far everything works even if sometimes i have some cuts in the streaming, maybe some interferences ?

Anyway i would like to test the distance the two cards can communicate so i put them in two cases to move them easily but when i put the slave in a plastic case, the transmission gets really bad even with the cards are next to each other. Is there a way to fix this problem ?

Thanks for your help

  • Hi Hugo,

    1. I can also be due to the PC not outputting audio samples via the USB to the CC8531.

    2. What kind of plastic case is it? What range do you get when it is inside the plastic. Typically if you put something close(like plastic) to the antenna it will be a bit "de-tuned” and resonates at a lower frequency and hence you will get a bit lower range. In your own design to get good performance, you should tune the antenna when having the PCB in the plastic to used in the final product.

  • The PC is well sending the audio using the USB but i always have random cuts, even when the boards are at 1m distance from each other. This is my biggest problem !

About the case, it is a regular one, pretty thin, with foam to keep it stable. I konw i am going to get a lower range but it wanted to know if it could disrupt the signal ?

  • Hi Hugo,

Some PCs and operating systems have glitches in their USB audio especially during CPU loads. This will be audible also over the wireless link and it might be that it is this you are observing. The headsetkit should be capable of transmitting over much much longer distances.

  • Thank you Kjetil,

i think this is what i am hearing.

But is there a way to be sure the glitches are coming from my USB port ? And if i want to use another PC to generate the audio, how should i choose it ? Do you have any idea which PC or operating system should i use to avoid those glitches ?

  • Hi Hugo,

Do not have indications to any specific PC or operating system that can cause this. You can most likely verify that this is indeed the issue by increasing the distance and observe if the audio dropout increase or not (at one point it will, but that is when you are reaching the range the RF is capable of maintaining a solid audio stream).
