TAS5631DKD2EVM and Input-USB Board 2 first test

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5631

Hello,

I'm student. My School bought a TAS5631DKD2EVM with Input-USB Board 2 and it was given to me as project to understand how it works and make a documentation of them together in french, but I don't really understand how it works.

I tried to do a first test with an oscillator instead of loudspeaker, but I got nothing. I supplied the Input-USB Board 2 with 15V and  I put a song in the analog input SDIN1 (CH 1+2). I supplied the TAS5631DKD2EVM only with 35 V (20 - 50V recommended) and I put an oscillator instead of loudspeaker. I did some configurations in the GUI also and unmuted the Input-USB Board 2. my first question is, does it work like that? should I also supply the TAS5631DKD2EVM with 12V for regulators?

Here the configurations I did:

- mode BTL

- master volume : +15

- Fs = 48kHz

- bass & treble inline (on)

- Loudness filter file : Loudness2_48k

- Loudness gain : 1.0000

- Compression : DRC1, pre-volume DRC

- DRC parameter file : late_night48.drc550x

Second question: how should I configurate the GUI for a first test?

Third: as input of the Input-USB Board 2, i only put a song through analog input. is that ok?

And last question: what should I do step by step to perform a first test of both Input-USB Board 2 and TAS5631DKD2EVM?

Sorry for my bad English. I hope you will understand my questions and find how to help me.

Thanks.

  • Hi, Christian,

Welcome to the wonderful world of audio!!!

We actually have a Users Guide for this EVM - I think it will answer most of your questions. You can find it here.

  • Thank you for Your answer,

    I still don't understand something:

for the general test condition, i read in the TAS5631 manual (page 4) that we need a 12 V DC supply voltage in additional to the 50 V (RECOMMENDED OPERATING CONDITION) but this is not mentioned in the TAS5631DKD2EVM manual (we just need the 50 V DC supply voltage). so what should I do?

and for a general test, i need as input signal a 1kHz Sine. can i also put a song?

    best regards.

    Christian

  • Hi, Christian,

Actually, the 12V supply is generated by the wall adapter used with the controller board, and goes across the flex cable to the TAS5631 EVM, so there is indeed 12V power going to the TAS5631 EVM.

Sure, you can provide ANY audio signal to the EVM! It would be pretty boring if we just made amplifiers for sine waves! :-)

  • Thank you very much indeed for your answer.

    It walks pretty good.

    I have another question:

    - can i use both analog Input and SPDIF Input at the same time? I don't also understand the difference between both those two Inputs.

    - when i press RATE in the Input-USB board 2, i only get Fs = 48 kHz or Fs = 96 kHz. how do i get the other frequencies (32, 38, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192 kHz)?

    thank you.

  • Hi Everybody,

May i get the orcad file for Input USB board 2?

If possible please provide me the same.

    Thanks and regards,
