TPA6130A2 and piezoelectric speaker

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6130A2, TPA2100P1

Hello!

I want to use one amplifier chip for sourcing both headphones and piezoelectric speaker. Is it possible to use TPA6130A2 for this purpose? I tried the following design (but without R6 and R7) and it happened that on plugging headphones a kind of overcurrent took place. The datasheet recommends using R6 and R7 not less than 12.5 Ohm, but reference design in SLOU185 specifies resistors of 220 Ohm. If it is even possible to use this amplifier with piezo speaker, where may I find guidelines for selecting their value?

 PS: sorry for grammar mistakes.

  • Hello Ivan:

    Your grammar is excellant.

Unfortunately, the TPA6130A2 is not designed to drive a capacitive load and a piezo speaker is a capacitor.

The overcurrent the you are seeing might be caused by an oscillation at the device tries to start.

For piezo speakers, I suggest that you look at our TPA2100P1 Piezo Speaker Driver.

    Rgds,

    Fred
