Wireless audio to a large number of devices?

Hi,

I have a question about simultaneous and synchronised wireless audio transmission to multiple devices.

I'm involved in a research project examining the effect of physical separation on music ensemble interaction and timing. Basically, I'm investigating how physically separating musicians from each other affects how they play 'together'.

To accomplish this, I need a high-quality wireless audio solution with minimal lag and the possibility to connect a single audio playback source to a large number (anywhere from 5 to 50+) of devices (e.g., headphones). Note that I want to transmit a single audio stream to multiple listeners (all listeners should be able to hear the same audio stream as synchronously as possible).

PurePath looks like an interesting technology, but, if I understand correctly, is limited to the transmission of only 4 simultaneous streams. Is this correct? If so, are there any alternative technologies available which can allow more listeners to simultaneously hear the same audio?

Hi Geoff,

You are correct that PurePath Wireless is limited to the number of slaves/headphone we can support. It is possible to get beyond the initial 4 slaves limitation by applying a multiple synchronized master scenario, but supporting 50+ is still not within reach. You probably need something that is a pure broadcast system and we do not have this in our current portfolio.

Hi Winnefred,

You can find more information on this topic in Section 2.4.6 Timeslot Alignment in the User Guide:

Note that the systems occupied bandwidth will increase per master added thus the more master the harder the interference situation will be. If i remember correctly the occupied bandwidth per master is just below 4 MHz.
