DSP for android tablet car audio project

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS3308, TLV320AIC3262

Hi,

currently I am working on installing an android tablet into my car to use as a mutlimedia/phone/gps system.

Right now, I am having two amps in the car, being provided with the signal of an analog cross over.

While I could just use the analog jack of the tablet an run it to the analog crossover I would like to do it different.

The tablet has an hdmi outlet, thus providing digital audio out. Then it would be nice to run this signal to a DSP having crossovers, gain, and maybe delay calculated there and provide these signals to the amps.

My first shot would be to use an hdmi to toslink adapter which should provide SPDIF. Could I than run it to the TAS3308EVM-LC? Using this EVM board would be nice (I know it is discontinued), since it is fairly cheap and provides 6 analog out signals, perfectly for my 3 way setup...

Or would there be an more integrated chip, which could be fed directly by the hdmi signal?

Thank you very much (hoping that this questions isn`t to simple or unprofessional for this forum)!

Best regards

  • Hi, Christian,

I think your idea sounds pretty solid, but as you said, the TAS3308 is NRND, so we don't have tools (or even a complete d/s) on it. So, it might be a little hard for you to program it.

Also, all our devices use RAM, so every time you turn off your system, the device will lose it's settings, so you'll need some micro (MSP430 for example) to program the values into the registers.

We also have a line of miniDSPs combined with audio codecs, like TLV320AIC3262, but we only release the GUI for the EVM to verified professional customers (pps.ext.ti.com for more info).

You might try DIYAudio or some other hobbyist place for other ideas.

  • Hi Don!

Work has been keeping me busy...

When you say you don´t have any tools to programm the TAS3308, do you mean that the PurePath Studio won´t work with that chip anymore?

Thanks for pointing out the RAM issue, I would have not seen that in the first moment.

The TLV320AIC3262 sounds interessting, however without a programing interface, the needed learning curve would be to high for me, I guess.

Thank you for your answer, I will try DIYAudio as you suggest, too ;-)

    Greetings

  • Hi, Christian,

I am not sure about the software, I do know it only works on win xp, though. So, if you can find a copy of it, and have a win xp machine, then you can use it.

I don't see a link to it on the Product Folder for TAS3308, though.
