S/PDIF Decoding

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIR9001, TAS5548

Hi,

I am going to design a 5.1 channel digital audio amplifier, the input from the DVD player is coaxial this is the serial audio output (uncompressed), now need help to choose components to decode the digital input and split it to individual channel along some processing like volume control, 3 band equalizer, bass management.

Can you please give me the clear path and concept to approach this project.

Regards,

Siva Prasad

  • Hi, Siva,

If you have an uncompressed stream, you can only get 2 channels.

We have an SPDIF receiver which converts SPDIF to I2S. this is the DIR9001.

You could then feed the 3 I2S signals (for full 5.1) to TAS5548 which could then be used to drive 6 power stages.
