TAS5611A current consumption

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5611A

Hi,

I am trying to calculate the current consumption from the 12V rail by the TAS5611A. From the data sheet I seem to calculate a total of 100mA. Is this correct. I need to be sure as I have to do a secondary power supply design to support the 12V rail for this amp and I am doing a 200mA switcher. Also is there any inrush currents that I need to be aware of?

Thanks for your help in advance..

  • Hi Manjula,

I would recommened having local decoupling caps at each of the GVDD_X and a 10uF cap close to the device for all the GVDD_X. The 10uF cap should take care of the in-rush current. Please refer to the EVM user's guide for the schematic and layout.

  • Hi Paul

Thank you for the helpful hints regarding the decoupling capacitors. However this did not quite answer my question which could have been confusing. What I am really after is the average current demand of the chip from the 12V power rail. From the data sheet I calculate it as 100mA max (taking into account the various demands from the half bridge circuits etc). Can you please verify to me that if I design a step down power supply for 200mA max load current that this would be adequate to supply the TAS5611A?

    Thanks for your help
