Negative single supply op amp bypass capacitor

I am hooking up a op amp for use as a unity gain buffer. The voltage supplies I am using are ground and -28V to cover the possible range of the input signal.

For bypass capacitors, should I just use a bypass cap from the -28V to ground? like a 0.1uf cap?

Thanks!

Mark

  • Hi Mark,

You can use a single 0.1uF cap from -28V to ground or as typically is done, you can use two 0.1uF caps; one from -28V to 1/2 supply reference (assuming you have one) and one from 1/2 supply reference to ground.

It is also common to use a larger valued cap in parallel to each 0.1uF cap to keep the impedance of the power supply as low as possible. If you have power supply regulators nearby, then the larger valued caps may not be necessary.

    Best Regards,
