PCM2902E Latency or propagation delay

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2902C

Hi, I am using this audio codec (PCM2902E) in a usb audio power amplifier design.

Would like to know what the latency or propagation delay in milliseconds is

from an audio input into the ADC - PROCESSING - DAC output ?

Regards,

  • Hi, Anthony,

Welcome to e2e, and thank you for your interest in our products.

The ADC has a delay of 17.4/fs and the DAC has a delay of 14.3/fs (there is a typo in the d/s -- the "/" is missing).

  • Hi Don,

Thanks for your quick response and that seems to equate to a total of approx. 0.66 milliseconds at 48kHz if I am correct and it is negligible.

I would like to quote a figure in my product specs but I suspect the windows driver would add significantly more delay

to the whole scheme of things. What would be the approximate latency for the operation of the driver?

    Thanks, Anthony

  • Hi, Anthony,

Unfortunately, I don't have data on that aspect of the system.

  • Hi Don,

Thanks for the reply. The best possible result I can achieve with 3rd Party recording software with

some latency adjustment is 10 milliseconds. Not bad but not really suitable for direct monitoring for

recording instruments with the windows driver. The default latency setting of the windows driver would

be higher at a educated guess I'd say somewhere in the 20 millisecond + range.

As for my application which is for music playback and possibility of recording music to computer or laptop,

the PCM2902E has exceeded all expectations. Thanks for such a great product! Looking forward to

working with the PCM2902C with the line in descriptor upgrade and volume curve improvements for

windows 7 certification and hopefully windows 8.

     Thanks Again.
