TLV320AIC3256 for use in sdr

Hello, I was wondering if the

above part could be used as a narrow band sub sampling transceiver in a SDR? being controlled by a FPGA with a embedded M3.Secondary use would be to clean up received and transmitted voice.

   Thank you Tom Hurst

  • Hi, Tom,

I'm not familiar with software defined radios, and how this part might, or might not, fit in them. Can you break down for me a little what you'd need the device to do?

  • Hi,

    Sure.

Some radio's use a soundcard to do the signal processing and data conversion while other use a FPGA / ARM device with separate ADC / DAC's.. I was wondering if the TI device could receive a RF signal and process it thru the ADC then do some down conversion before off loading it to the FPGA. Once the FPGA was done it would feed back into the device before the DAC were the DAC would process it then send it out. I was also wondering if it could be used for filtering audio before transmission and after reception to decrease the signal bandwidth and enhance the audio so the voice transmission would be strong and clear including only the most relevant portions of the human hearing range.

So basically it would handle the data conversions of the RF signal and supplement the FPGA as well as filtering the audio as described above.

    Thank you,

    Tom Hurst

  • Hi, Tom,

Unfortunately, these devices are only designed to accept audio signals at the inputs.

I think you need one of TI's high speed ADCs to do what you want.

I think we also have some AFEs to do this, but I'm not familiar with those products.
