Hi,

I'm thinking of using TLV320ADC3101 for a sound level monitoring application and came across the article: http://www.planetanalog.com/author.asp?doc_id=559749&cid=planetanalognewsletter&piddl_msgpage=2#msgs . I thought of using the miniDSP in ADC3101 for spectrum analyzer without filters in purepath GDE, but it doesn't show spectrum analyzer for ADC3101 framework. Spectrum analyzer appears for only AIC parts? Is this a bug or is the ADC's miniDSP not able to handle it? What are the limitations of the miniDSP in ADC3101?

The spectrum analyzer uses a hardware block called log amp for linear-to-log conversion. The log amp is only available on the miniDSP engine that is attached to the DAC.

That is the reason the component is not available for use with the ADC3101.

The details about the miniDSP engines (how many there are, their MIPS/RAM/ROM/Coeffs) are available from the datasheet. The Purepath GDE help files will give you more details about the software library components running on the miniDSP. Additional application level details are available in the app notes in the product pages at ti.com (for your case http://www.ti.com/product/tlv320adc3101). These resources will give you a working idea about the capabilities of the miniDSP.
