AIC3101 - Mic/Headset Jack Detection and Power Consumption

I am using an AIC3101 in a CC85XX EVM, and using a host controlled situation eventually, but being able to test it on an autonomous configuration, I want to avoid having an 'on/off' switch so that when you have audio silence for a set period time, it can put the CC85XX and AIC3101 into power saving modes such that the remnant power consumption allows the battery to keep on powering the devices for 6 to 12 months.  I have asked a question in relation to this on the RF forum, but have another possibility as follows:

QUESTION A:  Can I use the AIC3101 headset jack detection facility to power up when a mic and/or headphones are inserted.  I cannot find anything about the state of the AIC3101 to allow this.  Am I correct in assuming that the 'detection block' referred to in SLAA454 must be active.   Can you please guide me in this respect, especially as to the register settings to achieve minimum power.

QUESTION B: Can you inform me of the approximate current draw in various states related to this situation please.

    I am not an expert on the AIC3101, but from what I know, I don't believe this is possible. I don't believe you can somehow tie powerdown modes to the headset detection stuff. Based on your review of the d/s, do you believe this is possible?

  • Hi Geoff,

    The detection circuit will just set flags. It is up to the user to check the flags and make changes based on the status. Some of our more advance codecs such as the AIC3254 have the ability to make autonomous changes based on inputs so you might want to look at that one.

    The power in various states is shown in the table on page 10 of the data sheet.
