TAS5631 power supply reference design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5631, TAS5630

I'm looking at using the TAS5631 in a new design (2xBTL stereo). The data sheet refers to "Coupled with TI’s Class G power supply reference design". However, I can find nothing regarding this. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

  • Hi!!

I would also like to know what is happening with the reference design.  It was supposed to be released a few weeks from November so if anyone knows anything about it let us know...

    Thank you!!

  • Hi!

Sorry if you get this post twice..      I was wondering if anybody has news about the reference design for the power supply...

    Thanks for letting me know!!!

  • Hi Mike,

    Finally is ready:

"A 600W, Universal Input, Isolated PFC Power Supply for AVR Amplifiers Based on the TAS5630/5631"

file name slou293.pdf from June 2010, link: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/slou293/slou293.pdf

    Greetings,

    Andy

  • Wow...

At first glance it looks great. You guys did a great job. I appreciate the inclusion of the magnetics supplier (this has been a hassle on some "other" designs).

    Will the Gerbers be posted?

    Thanks,

    Mike T.

  • Thanks Andy,

That doesn't really answer the question. I saw the information and link regarding Upcon (and visited their site) from the document. The Upcon site doesn't provide any further information, other than a bit of info about them and contact info.

Typically when TI publishes a reference design they also provide Gerber files etc. Perhaps TI hasn't had time yet...

  • Hi Mike,

I try to search TI site, but unfortunately I don't find any other information.

I sent message to Upcon with few questions. I hope, that they will answer, than I will publish the answers immediately.

    Greetings,

    Andy

  • Hi Guys,

I just started building my own copy of TI Reference Design SMPS for TAS5630. Because of quite high single PCB production cost I had to order 10 boards. I have some of them still available if somewone would like also to try this SMPS. If someone would be interested to have one please contact me.

    Cheers!

    Tomasz

  • Hi!

I am interested to get 2 or 3 PCBs for the SMPS or, better, 2 or 3 fully assembed SMPS samples.

I there a way to have this items?

    Ciao!

    Maurizio

  • Hi Maurizio,

Sorry for my late replay - to much work at the moment ...

I had only 10 PCBs and I do not think I will ever have more - I ordered them just for my development and testing purpose. I need not more than 4 of them myself. I ordered 10 because of PCB production price and I thought someone would also build the SMPS to test. I have still 3 or 4 available. If you interested to have it drop me simple a email chumiecki@gmail.com than I can replay with some more information.

My first SMPS is nearly ready assembled :) I need some high votage components and I will start it!

    Cheers!

    Tomasz

  • Hi Thomasz,

I am interested in your PCBs and also in a fully assembled SMPS unit (as described in http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/slou293/slou293.pdf).

What is the estimated total cost of components (including your PCB) in the SMPS design you are implementing?

For production quantities, the total BOM (Bill of Materials) cost is very important for my application.

    Looking  forward to your reply.

    Errol

  • Hi All,

My first, a little bit customized, TI reference SMPS board for TAS5630 / TAS5631 seems to be ready :)

I ordered the PCB with a black soldering mask and 70µm copper thickness because of better power dissipation - it also looks more sexy in black :)

  • Hi Errol,

Unfortunately I can not offer you a ready assembled SMPS board. I assembled my one purely from hand and it took a long long hours of work. I have still some PCBs beacause of PCB manufacturing cost I ordered some more even if I need just 4. If you like to have some boards send me an email than I could respond you with some more details. Most of the components you can buy by Farnell/Mouser and the inductors/transformers you can get directly from the manufacturer.

About prices you can ask directly your TI support. I am sure, having a really production project in a background TI could provide you a complete BOM with prices. I was really surprised with this SMPS price calculated for production in quantity like 50k or 100k a year.

    Cheers!

    Tomasz

  • Hi Tomasz,

I sent you a personal email about the PCB. If people are interested I can run the PCB BOM priced from Mouser/Digikey etc. in the USA. This would give an indication of small quantity component pricing. I have some contacts for prototype assembly for one-off boards as well for those that may be interested. I built the TAS5630 amp from the files posted by TI and have been very happy with it.

I asked this same question in my email to you; were you able to get the PCB Gerber files for the boards from UPCON? From the pictures posted the board has the UPCON logo on it. I tried contacting UPCON to no avail. I thought at some point TI would post the Gerber files but so far I haven't seen anything. I don't like to "push" these things, after all the design has been published "for free".

    Thanks!

  • Hi, I make digital ampliefer and have some questions about power supply.

    Your design is very nice.

Could you help me with Gerber files?

    What core material and size?

Where I can find it? Sweden sales ofice don't answer.

    Besr regards Dmitriy

  • That is the same for me :

I contact both Upcon Technologies and Ole Wolff, but they NEVER answer...

and still no gerbers, no transformers.

I know that TI is working on another one audio PSU, but no doubt we will have the same problem.

    Regards,

  • It is very difficult to test the avr smps from TI with PFC stage, we have made one new board and support 2 tas5630 chip full power working , very lower EMI,and continous rated power, common parts and suit for audio application. we will revise it for third version. add some circuit for good audio performance.

our customer asked for tas5631 all digital amp, but we think tas5631 almost same as tas5630, only input filter added, right or not?

can it  replace tas5630 with near circuit?

  • Dear Mike

I got Gerber from TI local and made borders with masks.

Asked my friends in Gemany, they ordered and got transformers from Ole Wolf(about 50 Euro complect).

Can help you with this deal.
