LOS range under different hardware

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2590

Hi ,

As I known in  the application note AN089,for the CC85XX the LOS range is 35+m and 130+m when adding cc2590. I have a question :the LOS range of 130+m ,did  the MASTER and SLAVE both contain the cc2590 ?  If I used the MASTER which contains cc2590 and SLAVE without cc2590, will the LOS range be shorten?  Dose the SLAVE RF output  power effect the distance of stable conection, for the "ANSWER"  from the SLAVE cann't reach the MASTER?  I want to reduce the cost by remove the cc2590 from SLAVE,but I worry about the action may short  the link distance.  Hope for reply, thanks.

Best  regards

Jack.

  • Hi Jack,

I beleive the 130 m LOS range is with CC2590 on both slave and master. The CC2590 improves the RX sensitivity slightly, but more importantly as you point out, the TX-power of the ack is the limiting factor when removing the CC2590 on one side.

    Cheers,

    Fredrik

  • The RF link is always bi-directional, but it's built so that having the CC2590 only on the side that is transmitting audio will have an positive effect on range vs. not having CC2590 at all
If you have access to our CC85XXDK, then this is supplied with and without CC2590 so that you can test the performance before taking a final decision.
