About TPA3130D2 Max Output at 14V/ 2x 4 OHM load

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3130D2, TPA3118D2

Dear Sir,

I'm evaluating TPA3130D2 and TPA3118D2 in a new project for cost and output.

I need to know how much power TPA3130D2 can output at below conditions:

working voltage : 14V

load: 2x 4 ohm

PCB: 2-layer PCB, if necessary we can add a thin heatsink at the bottom.

Our aim is to reach 2x18W. Can it be possible?

By the way, if the Rdson is the same between TPA3130D2 and TPA3118D2, then what makes the output power difference? (at datasheet, TPA3130D2 15W / TPA3118D2 30W)

Thanks a lot.

  • Hi CG.,

The max power can be found in the DS on page 10 Figure 14 for the BTL x2 4R load. With 14V supply, the max power is 20Wx2 (1%THD+N) and 25Wx2 (10%THD+N). TPA3118D2 can meet 18Wx2 since it is rated for 30Wx2. It may be possible for TPA3130D2 if the system is optimized for thermal performance. It really depends on the ambient temperature.  Please try to follow the TPA3118D2 EVM layout and adding a heatsink at the bottom can also help.
