Unable to play stereo audio when lm49350 in configured in mono

Dear Support,

We are using lm49350 codec in our custom design. We use audio port 1 for both play and record and it is configured in mono mode. Codec is in master mode.

We are able to play mono audio files and also record mono audio. 

However when we try to play stereo audio file, the audio is distorted (kind of echoed). I understand that since right channel is disabled (and muted) right channel data should be ignored. 

Please find the lm49350 register configuration (lm49350_i2c_reg.txt) for your reference. Further to add that if I set register 0x50 to 0x1f (set bit0 to enable stereo) then stereo audio plays fine and also mono audio.

Can anyone help us find what could be the issue?
