TPA3110D2 DC Detect Issue help

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3110D2

Dear Sir,

Today I just found one TPA3110D2 board with DC detect issue(420ms cycle shutdown), but I can't find the reason.  Here is the sch,

I have removed C194/C193/C205/C206, C187/C186/C208/C207, and the error still existed. I've no idea about what can cause the issue.

And when it happened the GVDD was 5.2V.  The good board GVDD is 6.8V.

  • Hi, cg,

I don't believe you are tripping the dc detect --> that is a latched fault that can only be cleared by power cycling the device.

It looks to me like you're tripping the short-circuit protection. Your output filter component values look a little odd to me, but I see you already removed C187/C186/C208/C207.

Then perhaps this is a thermal issue, and you're tripping the thermal protection? How much output power are you trying to drive?

PS We have a nice app note on LC filters. You can find it here.

  • Hi Don,

You are right. It is tripped by another TPA3110D2 because the 2 pieces of TPA3110D2  SD pins connecting together. And what LC values should I use? I've read SLOA119A page 12, there are four LC values for 4 OHM load. Which one is best? Thanks.

  • Hi, CG,

Wow, THAT'S a new one!!! I'll have to remember that for future debug sessions!

As for the filter, I'd go with the first or third one. I think the third may have a little higher power consumption, but I haven't measured it.
