Suitable amplifier to drive 50ohm speaker

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA2005D1-Q1, TPA6211A1-Q1, TPA6211A1, TPA2100P1

Hello,

I have request from Automotive customer to estimate suitable amplifier to drive 50ohm speaker.

Amplifier should be Q1 qualified, 5V power supply and small size.

Speakers specifications are follows.

DC resistance:50 ohm

Power Ratings: 0.5W nominal/1W maximum

Resonant Frequency: 560Hz +-170Hz

Speaker Type(voice coil or ….): Unknown

Q1: TPA2005D1-Q1

Please advice if TPA2005D1-Q1 is suitable or not.

Speaker type is unknown and I’m not sure if Class-D amp can drive not voice coil type speaker.

Q2:TPA6211A1-Q1

Please advice if TPA6211A1-Q1 is suitable or not.

Q3: Please advice more suitable device if you have suggestion.

Best Regards.

  • Hi, Ushikubo-san,

Unfortunately, with a 5V rail, and a 50 ohm load, your maximum output level will be limited to about 200 mW - see Figure 2 of the TPA6211A1 data sheet.

Class-D, or class-AB can be used. If the speaker has non-resistive impedance, you will need to put a damping resistor in for either amplifier.

TPA2100P1 is designed to drive ceramic speakers. However, it is not -Q1 qualified.
