active noise cancellation in ventilation ducts

Hi, I am an undergrad student of electronics engineering. I need some help in deciding the algorithm to be used for acoustic noise cancellation in ventilation ducts. I wish to perform matlab simulation/ simulink modelling first, and then want to proceed further for hardware implementation. I have only learnt the basics of digital signal processing and hence I am confused from where to start the modelling.

a)I have taken the input block, LMS filter block. What should I do next?

b)I referred the application note of TI (spra042) regarding the same topic, but I'm confused how to implement the blocks of secondary path transfer function.

c)Do i need to compute FFT/z transform of the input first before connecting it to any other block?

d)Are there any methods better than LMS for this application if I want the reduction in duct noise by at least 20-30dB? (provided that Im using a single stage of this system)

Please help me on these questions. The answers will definitely provide me some directions to proceed with my problem. Thank you. :-)
