Data channel drawbacks

I am making intense use of data channel, i.e. datagrams. It is a very useful concept for serious use of CC85xx but a dispropportionate lot of my development and testing goes into data channel management while I believe it would be much more efficient if it was built-in. I mean data link management and monitoring - why isn't data link initiated when there is a network join performed but instead it requires very cumbersome datagrams exchange and "reset" procedure ? Why aren't data link problems reported as network events with all convenience coming with it ?
Can you consider building it in and if so in what timeframe ?
