Doubt on Audio codec TLV320AIC3254

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3254

Hi Sir,

I am Aravind working as FAE. I suggested the part TLV320AICV3254 to one of my customer. They gone through datasheet and mentioned me that using this device by means of programming either the line o/p or speaker o/p can be taken at a time. But they actually needs all the 4 outputs to be simaltaneously available at a time. What i have to do now. Kindly help me on this issue. If the device not supports all the 4 o/p's at a time, then is there any device from TI can support this option, kindly need help.

  • Hi Aravind,

First, welcome to TI's E2E forums!

What is the application of this CODEC?

The AIC3254 will provide the same output to both, but the headphone signal would be inversed. There are many different CODECs that TI has to offer depending on the specifications. Is the miniDSP necessary for the application? I would recommend the AIC3106 if not. The AIC3262 is another option - it is a more complex device with increased functionality.

    Regards,

    ~John

  • Hi John sir,

Thanks for replying to my query. Yes MiniDSP is necessary. They need  volume control, attenuation control, equalizer, noise suppression and echo cancellation in it.They need four audio i/p's and 4 four audio o/p's.

Four audio i/p's are MIC, music, alarm, Digital voice announcement and four audio o/p's are connected to the speakers.

They need to switch single channel audio input to multiple channel audio o/p.

What they are asking is they are ok with all the specs in TLV320AIC3254, but it's mentioned only the line o/p or speaker o/p can be utilised at a time, but they need all the four o/p's from audio codec to be available at the same time. Is it possible?. If not possible is there any device from TI satisfy all the above features sir. Kindly need help.

    Regards,

    Aravind

  • Hi Aravind,

I have attached this to your previous question. Instead of creating a new post, the reply button at the bottom of my post is ususally the best way to respond. This way I get an email and can reply to it quickly!

Acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) is no longer supported in the AIC3254 or any of our miniDSP CODECs. As I said in my previous post, all four outputs can be available at the same time in the AIC3254, but the headphone output will be inversed. As for the four inputs/outputs, are they single-ended or differential? Is the microphone digital or analog?

I may want to point you in the direction of the AIC3262 (again, no AEC support), this device has 4 fully differential inputs and a 1.4W Class D amp built in. As well as line-out and headphone outputs.

    Regards,

    ~John

  • any reason why Acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) is no longer supported in the AIC3254? thanks!

  • Welcome to the E2E forums as well!

AEC is no longer supported for a variety of reasons in the AIC3254 (etc.). The best way to put it is that application variablity as well as design variability can have major affects on AEC performance. Meaning that every product built using the AIC3254 will have different AEC results based on the environment/application/design (etc.)

    Regards,

    ~John

  • So... the applications for which people need AECs are too unique and varied for a generic AEC PPS function to work well.  ...but low level programming is not supported because the PPS environment makes custom functions unnecessary.

I hope that TI management understands the complete illogic of that.
