PCM1704 input clock frequency

According to the datasheet, the maximum input clock frequency is 25MHz. Would it be possible to use the part with a slightly higher BCLK (28.224MHz) while keeping WCLK within the Fs limit (e.g. 352,800kHz)? If it turns out to work (for a digital sine wave input you see the corresponding analog sine wave output), could the faster BCLK degrade the audio performance in any way?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • It may be possible to use a slightly higher BCLK. The part is not tested against limits higher than the max/min limits in the datasheet. So everytime you violate a max limit you'll risk either diminished performance or functionality. If you violate the absolute max limits (not applicable to your BCLK frequency of 28.224 Mhz but a general statement), you'll damage the part.
