regarding audio codec AIC3254

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3262

Hi,

I am Aravind woirking as FAE suggested a part AIC3254 to the customer and gave them eval kit. It's inferred that line 1 i/p can be routed only to line 1 o/p. But the requirement is they need to give four i/p's and need to get 4 o/p's. four i/p's are digital voice announcement, music, alarm, MIC

if they give i/p at first line means they want to configure such that they can obtain the o/p at any of the four o/p lines, not from the first o/p alone. like switching operation. They need a audio codec with noise cancellation, gain control, filtering, equaliser, echo cancellation, volume control, attenuation control kindly suggest me a right audio codec from TI to be suggested to the customer sir.

Kindly need help on this.

  • Hi Sir,

Still waiting for your reply on the above post sir. Kindly need help on the above to suggest a right part to the customer sir

  • Hi Aravind,

I believe we already discussed this in a previous post. (here)

Can you please explain more about the end application? Within the AIC3254, the inputs can be routed to each of the different outputs, however, this has 4 channel outputs, (2 stereo outputs).

What are the outputs in this application? Are they headphones, SE outputs, differential? Is the input MIC digital/analog? Are the other three single-ended or differential?

What is the goal of the AEC/ANC in this application? As I mentioned previously, our CODECs no longer support AEC.

    Regards,

    ~John

  • Hi sir,

Thanks for your reply. I will get back to you on the i/p types whether it is single ended or differential, regarding the o/p types also sir.

Can you please brief me the step by step process to proceed with AIC3254 kit?. Because the customer is saying they dont find a place to route line1 i/p to fourth o/p, they are saying that with the board, they are able to route line 1 i/p only to line1 o/p. end application is voice announcement system

Kindly need help on this sir.

  • Hi Sir,

Below is the answer for your questions. I am posting directly the content taken from my mail replied by the customer.

Why do you need echo cancellation in this application?

We are using Mic I/p. It produce feedback signal. so we required echo cancellation.

Is the MiC i/p analog or digital? Are the other three i/p’s single ended or differential and analog or digital?

All the inputs are Analog only.

What is aux i/p? as you already mentioned whether it is alarm or any other thing?

    Alarm only.

What about the o/p’s?Are they single ended or differential speaker o/p’s?

Outputs are analog and single ended output.

Below is the mail completeley describing the complete requirement, kindly suggest me with a right device for their application.the below content is also the customer's mail only.

We have 4 audio input signals and 4 outputs (Speaker). We need 4 channel audio input to 4 channel output at every time. The output must have Volume control , Echo cancellation & Noise suppression.

    Four audio inputs:

    1)Mic

    2)Music (DVD Player)

3)Pre - Recorded voice msg (or) any audio or mic input

    4)Aux Input

    Note:

1)We have 4 audio input signals, any input goes to any output.

I attached switching function for my application.

    (OR)

We need 4 in - 4 out Audio codec without switching operation. But the outputs must have Volume control, Echo cancellation and Noise suppression.

    Kindly help sir.

    Regards,

    Aravind

  • Hi Aravind,

In reference to your first question, please look at the Applications Reference Guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa408a/slaa408a.pdf). On page 10, there is an analog routing diagram. The analog stereo inputs can be routed to either the headphone out (HPL/HPR) or the line out (LOL/LOR) through the registers on page 129/130 (assuming they are going through the ADC/miniDSP/DAC).

However, you may notice that this device only has 3 stereo inputs. So, I would look at at the TLV320AIC3262, which has 4 stereo inputs as well as a built in class-D speaker amp, a line out, headphone out, and receiver amplifier as well. On page 20 of the applications reference guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau309/slau309.pdf), there is the analog routing diagram for this device.

As I mentioned before, echo cancellation is no longer supported in our CODECs, you can however, use a CC5x DSP with a third party software (like http://www.ti.com/devnet/docs/catalog/embeddedsoftwarefulldetails.tsp?productId=545) in conjunction with the CODEC for that functionality.

  • Hi Sir,

Your answers helped me a lot as well as my customer, they are almost clarified and they are planning to use AIC3254 two parallely, because in AIC3254, they are able to do filtering operations only on the middle two i/p's and not the first and fourth i/p. Is it possibel to do filtering in first and fourth, they are saying that as only 2 ADC and 2 DAC are present, they are not able to do. Is there any device from TI which has 2 i/p' ans 2 o/p's with all their above requirements which i already mentioned in the previous post with 2ADC and 2DAC, so that all the operations can be done on both i/p's with volume control, gain , attenuation, equaliser, As you said echo cancellation with CC5x processor, what is CC5x DSP, is there any samples program avilable for interfacing audio  codec with the meantioned processor and controlling it via SPI? if samples codes are available, then TI will have it in dll format or complete source code. If complete source code is available means, they can do customisation, when they need it in future sir, kindly help me on the above sir.

    Aravind

  • Hi Sir, Kindly need your help on the above post sir.

    Regards,

    Aravind

  • Hi Aravind,

There are 3 stereo inputs on this device, which are you refering to when you say "not the first and fourth i/p"? All of the inputs are routed to the left/right ADC and then to the miniDSP for processing. There are two DACs/ADCs, one for the left and right channels (please look at the block diagram in the d/s). This device supports two stereo inputs and two stereo outputs.

For the AEC, I would go to the page I linked before and get more information from that 3rd party company(Adaptive Digital Technologies).

    Regards,

    ~John
