Hi guys,

Couple of years ago I used to use a patch program to patch an image file to fix its channel and power for EMC regulatory testing. Is it still the approach if I do not want to be inside the chamber or have any equipment connected to the DUT during testing? Or is it possible to use Purepath Commander to program the DUT permanently and then disconnect the PC? Is the configuration persistent?

Hi Vladimir,

Yes, the patching is still a very good method to use. The PPW Commander will not result in anything permant. You can also have a look at the chapter Simplified Production Test Included in Application Image at the page Hidden Features in the PPW Configurator help system.

The hidden features provides a good way to cycle between low, medium, and high. But what about RX mode?

We have found an issue with using the old method of patching. CC8520 is not on a power rail that is powered down. We put it into "sleep mode" from our host uC. But if CC8520 is running in Production Test mode, it does not respond to the EHIF commands. So it never goes to sleep and burns the power. In the old system it was not an issue -- we just pulled batteries out. But in the new system batteries are not removable. So we continually burn power.

How do people deal with that?

Hi Vlad,

I don't understand why you are concerned with the power consumption when in production test mode. This is not something that will effect your final product, right?

Kristoffer,

It is very hard to manage devices at the laboratory that are constantly transmitting and/or completely discharged. There will be no way to turn them off once they are programmed.

Hi Vlad,

I guess the only option you have is to re-flash it back with an application image after you are done with the RF testing. And then if you want to continue with the RF testing e.g. the next day you have to flash it with the patched production test image again.
