TAS5760L - external protections in case of H-Bridge damage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5760L

Hi guys,

I'm using TAS5760L in a medical equipment and I would like to know if there is any possibility of any H-Bridge stage damage can cause high sound levels at output.

If yes, there is a protection already implemented in TAS5760L? Otherwise, I' gonna predict an external one.

Best regards.

Zanetti

  • Zanetti,

The Over current protection limits the output power levels and protects the H-bridge from shorts to GND, Supply and Terminals. In addition there is a digital clipper that can be used to set lower max power limit for additional protection.

Can you specify which damage/failure scenario you're concern about, so I can better assist you?

  • Damian,

    thank you for answering.

I am worried about shorting output between PVDD e GND. We will use 10 Ohm headphones and PVDD= 5V.

I agree with you that OCE would help. OCEthres maximum is typ 7A at PVDD=15 V and it can be configured to 25% (1,75 A) of the maximum.

I couldn't find OCEthres maximum value for other PVDD than 15 V as I intend to use 5 V. Can you say which maximum value may I use for this PVDD?

The output current of the equipment should be under 250 mA. I didn't check yet, but I think I can use digital clipper to control this in normal operation, but we won't help if I have a output short between PVDD e GND.

    Do you agree?

    Regards,

    Zanetti
