TPA6211A internal anti-parallel diodes



Hi everybody!

I want to use the TPA6211A as an amplifier for a sine-wave generator, because of the low output impedance, 5 V supply, BTL configuration and low-cost. So, it is intended for a "lab-equipment", that means it should be quite robust in functioning. Well, I already know that it's short-circuit and thermal-protected.

My question is: does it incorporate anti-parallel diodes on the output transistors (MOSFETs?)?

I couldn't find this in a datasheet, and the idea is to protect it against spikes on the outputs that may occur by playing around with inductive loads.

    This device is designed to drive speakers which are, of course, inductive in nature. All power mosfets have an integrated body diode which is essentially rated for the same current as the mosfet channel itself.

    However, if your inductive load is >> than the inductance of a speaker, then you probably should put external schottky diodes just to be safe. Especially since it sounds like you have no idea what someone might connect to your circuit.

    thanks for the answer. I didn't know that all power mosfets have a build-in body diode, especialy those in IC's - good to know! (they appear only in some datasheets)

    Yes, we are talking about possible high inductive loads with less than 0.5 Ohm resistance, that's why a series shunt resistor of 2 Ohm is also on-board and I wanted to avoid 4 extra diodes.
