CC85xx TX and 2.4GHz RX in very close proximity



Hi,

Is it unwise to put a CC85xx TX "F" style PCB antenna very close, say 50 mm, from another 2.4 GHz RX "F" style PCB antenna?  The RX will be receiving another 2.4 HGz data stream in a proprietary format, and many dropped packets will not be acceptable.  I don't want the CC85xx to interfere with this RX.  

Is there a recommendation on how far apart these antennas should be, different polarization, etc?

    This will depend on the parameters of the two radios in question when it comes to selectivity, blocking and saturation as well as the output power used (seen by the other antenna). Antenna radiation pattern will also matter. 

    The CC85xx is rather high duty-cycle for TX, but is frequency hopping across the 2.4 GHz band (configurable such that some channels can be blocked) and also have the option to output when it is doing Tx and Rx (See the User Guide on Timeslot alignment). The proprietary link can then be designed around this through planning both in the frequency domain and time domain. You want the channels to be separated as far apart as possible and try to prevent one radio from doing Tx while the other is in Rx (saturation). 

    I have seen successful implementations of multiple radios (e.g Bluetooth and CC85xx) with the antennas separated roughly the distance you mention. 

    Not sure if you have noticed that the CC85xx offers a "guarantied" delivery data-channel along with the audio, so if the CC85xx RX and 2.4 GHz Tx is also on the same board you can look into using this for the proprietary data.
