connecting external i2c master with tlv320aic3120 evm kit

hi,

I am working tlv320aic3120 EVM kit ACEV-1B to study the device. TI is providing Codec Control software to program internal registers. However i am trying to connect external master to program registers using I2C Test point pins. but this is not working as soon as i connect the SCL line to external controller line goes permanently low.

Kindly suggest any solution or TLV320aic3120 is not programmable with multi master i2c devices.

Hi, Amit,

It sounds like the two I2Cs masters are fighting. Please disconnect the I2C master on the EVM when feeding an external I2C. Make sure you have pull-ups somewhere in the system.

thanks for reply. i am using EVAL kit of TLV320AIC3120 chip and if you are familiar with the kit i find no way to disconnect on board I2C. There are external pull resister installed on I2C lines.

Suggest any other way to attach external master. I found problem with SCL line, it gets permanently low when external master is connected.

Hi, Amit,

You might have to cut traces or lift pins on the TAS1020B. I did not review the schematic for this board; sometimes we put jumpers where you can insert external I2C signals. I assume we didn't do that on this board, though.

Problem is solved yesterday without making any modification on the kit actually I was making a mistake in addressing device ID address. I am able to program tlv320aic3120 internal registers using external master.
