I am using a PCM3052A audio codec with i2c control. If I enable the I2C on the codec, does the codec stop sampling and communicating on the I2S lines?

the I2C and I2S are completely independent.

Thank you. I will have to look in some other direction then. I have the i2cen pin tied high, and I believe I am meeting the I2S signal criteria, but getting no output. I'll keep looking.
