PCM2912A continuous output pop on Mac OS. Silicon issue?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2912A, PCM2912

I'm using the PCM2912A EVM and in the PC works great. However in the Mac (a MacBook Pro) there is a continuous pop coming out of the output channels. Both left and right.

The pop comes out every 1 second or so, as long as the USB codec is selected as the output in the Mac.

I know in the past there was a silicon issue with PCM2912 where a pop was present in the recording channel. That pop in the recording channel was due to excess in the max-packet size and was address in the silicon rev A. (see PDF below)

Now I'm wondering if I came across a new bug in the PCM2912A silicon. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Igor

  • Hi, Igor,

That is very interesting. i believe we have previously tested this on a mac with no issues. can you tell me about your conditions so we can look at duplicating it here? How did you have the Evm configured, what Mac, what os, etc Etc

Has anyone else in the Community seen an issue like this?

  • It was an out-of-the-box setup with the EVM. Jumpers at 100mA and Gain on. Default settings on the Mac (sampling rate, etc)
The machine:    Macbook Pro (mid 2010)
    Os version:       OS X 10.9.3
Processor:        2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory:           8 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
  • Hi, Igor,

It seems like that version of OS X might have some audio issues (I found by searching the web briefly).

We'll test it out here on an older version of OS X as well. We aren't running 10.9.3.
