USB port current limit with INPUT-USB BOARD 2 for TAS5631DKD2EVM

Hi,

i just purchase TAS5631DKD2EVM from TI e-store.

When i connect the 1st board (INPUT-USB2 Board 6514175 RevA) to my PC, it indicates a Current Exceed Limit on my PC USB port.

I reproduce the problem with two configurations, on my DELL Laptop D810 as well as a DELL Precision 690 Tower.

Is it normal ? Can somebody tell me what is the current consumption required by my TI Input-USB Board at USB input port.

(connected what for i know to a TUSB3210, from schematic of the Input-USB board 2)

Thanks for any "welcome" help.

Regards, christian

  • Hi, Christian,

I think there is a problem with your board which is odd - these are fully tested before we send them out. Attached is the users guide (note this is preliminary), if you look at the schematics, very little power is drawn off the USB port. I suspect there must be a short someplace on the board. Try ohming it out and seeing what kind of resistance you see.

I'll PM you to get you a new board in case this one really is damaged.

  • HI Don,

thanks you for your response ... i debug all the day the problem

Effectively, there is as short circuit .. but not on the board, but on the USB cable ... so funny

    Regards, christian

  • Sure, NOW it's funny! I bet it wasn't funny when you were tearing your hair out trying to figure out where your current was going!

Pesky cables. My favorite is when people try to use a 50-ohm coax cable to power our EVMs, and then wonder why they don't get the rated power... Cables. Yeah.

  • Hi,

I am seeing the TI Input-USB Board 2, and little bit confused with few blocks into it.

Could you please let me know, the meaning of blocks Digital Inputs, Analog inputs, PC Interface?

I means what they depicts as there is no reference designator to it.

    Thanks and regards,
