Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320ADC3001, ADS1120

Dear all,
Customer think to use the TLV320ADC3001 as the general ADC for the sensing application because this device is lower cost than the general high resolution ADC like ADS1120. And we got some questions which relates with this usage. Please let me confirm the following questions.

[Question.1]
Does this device have the low power mode like the sleep mode of AIC3204? I could not find this mode in its datasheet.

[Question.2]
They will use this device with the intermittent mode in order to reduce the power consumption. Thus, the device enter the sleep mode in basically, and it will wake up at regular 10ms~40ms intervals in order to sample the input data. How do you think that they can do this usage?

[Question.3]
Can they control the sampling timing with using the external pin like I2S signals?

[Question.4]
What is the difference in Audio ADC and general high resolution ADC?  I could not know them.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Best regards,
Kaka

  • Hi,

    1. Yes, you can power down all unused blocks greatly reducing power.

    2. The device can be turned back on by I2C scripts as often as necessary

    3. The sample rate is controlled by MCLK and the I2S signals.

    4. Since this is an audio device, there are no DC specs available. We do not measure INL, DNL, offset or Monotonic behavior. We only test THD and SNR.  DC precision is fairly expensive to design and test and is responsible for the price difference between Audio and Industrial ADC's.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your comments.

Please let me confirm the following question.

    [Question.1]

Can customer use this device with 300 sps?

Regarding to the datasheet, the minimum sampling rate is 8ksps.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Best regards.

    Kaka

  • Yes, it should work as low as 300sps but we don't test at such low frequencies so the customer will have to decide if the performance meets their requirements.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your response.

If meet their requirements for their application, they can use this device at their own risks.

If we get more questions, please let me ask to you them.

    Best regards.
