Frequency ranges for TI TLV320AIC3106 codec

Hi, From what I have seen and done, the input bandwidth for the 3106 is 0 to 48kHz (if Fs is set to 96kHz).  What is the max output frequency of the 3106 (DAC)?  Is it set at around 20kHz or can it be programmed higher, and if so, how? Documentation, where in datasheet?

In the datasheet on page 10, it assumes 48kHz and says that passband is 0-0.45Fs.  If 48kHz, that's passband is around 21kHz.  What happens if Fs = 96kHz?

Thanks, D.M.

  • Hi DM,

    It is always set for audio bandwidth, so it will be just over 20 kHz even at 96 kHz.

  • Thanks for your reply.  We tried a few things after this post.  Fs = 96kHz.

    1) Tried inputting 20kHz into codec and looking at output on scope => 20kHz

        Tried inputting 42kHz into codec and looking at output on scope => 42kHz

        Incrementally increased frequency until rolloff => 44kHz (~1/2 96kHz)

    2) On page 10 of datasheet, it gives frequency range of DAC output => 0.45*Fs.  This says that if Fs=48kHz, rolloff will be about 21kHz. If Fs=96kHz, rolloff will be about 44kHz, which is what we saw.

    So, it appears that the codec will have a max frequency output of 0.45*Fs (unless we're missing something).
