Max Current for AIC3254 and AIC3262

I do not see maximum current ratings for the AIC3254 and AIC3262 codecs.  Can anyone please help me to find out what these ratings are?  The operating frequency of my audio transceiver is 192KHz.

  • Hi, Tim,

I've asked my colleague to work with you on this issue. It may be a few days until he can get back with you.

In the meanwhile, I think there are some app notes that discuss power usage of these codecs. Can you check them and see if they have the info that you're looking for?

  • Hi Timothy,

I assume you are asking for power supply design considerations. Below are some estimates to determine required supply current.

    AIC3254:

    • AVDD - ~50mA (if using external supply)
    • DVDD - ~50mA (if using external supply)
    • LDOin - Depends on how much current you plan to drive into a headphone load and if using internal LDO to generate AVDD and DVDD.
      • If using internal LDO for AVDD and DVDD, add ~100mA worst case.
      • If using LDOin to power HP amps, add (max pwr delivered * 2 channels * 2)
    • IOVDD - negligible, decoupling takes care of the spikes.

    AIC3262:

    • AVDD - ~50mA (if using external supply)
    • DVDD - ~50mA (if using external supply)
    • RECVDD, AVDD3 - If using REC amp, add (max pwr delivered * 2), plus 5mA for MICBIAS.
    • HVDD - If using HVDD to power HP amps, add (max pwr delivered * 2 channels * 2)
    • SPKVDD - If using SPK amps, add (max pwr delivered/efficiency/supply * #channels)
    • IOVDD - negligible, decoupling takes care of the spikes.
    • CPVDD - assume 50mA.
