I'm having an issue getting the TAS5711 EVM working. It currently outputs only about ~300Hz, regardless of what's on the input. We've already verified all of the jumper settings and can see I2S data toggling into the pins of the part. The I2C bus also seems to be working because we can turn the part on and off using the GUI.

We have it configured for 2.1 AD mode (48kHz) with 2x SE 4 ohm speakers and an 8 ohm BTL sub.

This is the second board we've tried with the same result.

What are we doing wrong?

Correction: Output is NOT ~300Hz, it's ~350kHz, which is about the right frequency for the output PWM.

Here's some more info from the customer I'm working with:

I spent a little more time on this, and I still can’t figure out why it’s not working.

-I went through all the I2C registers, and they all match my settings or default values.

-I captured some I2S data with a sine wave input, and the data is going up and down like I would expect for a sine wave.

->The data captured matches the register settings for input framing, number of bits and justification.

Have you used the GUI to configure the device to pass audio? Because it powers up in mute...

Hello Jason,

~356Hz seems to be the PWM frequency when there isn't valid I2S clocks (running off internal DCLK). Have you read reg 0x02 to check for errors? What MCLK, SCLK and LCLK are being used? What are you using as the I2S source? Can you provide a picture of the EVM setup?

Yes, we have verified the communications, reg 0x02, and I2S source. Picture is attached...

We're running off the dev board MC57XXPSIA.

Inputs are either the ADC input or the SPDIF (via RCA), and it looks the same for both.

SCLK is running at 6.14MHz

MCLK is running at 24.6MHz

Hello Jason,

Thanks for the info. Based on your SCLK it appears you're running 96kHz Fs. TAS5711 supports 8k to 48k Fs.

Can I get a view of the board jumper settings? Have you tried a different MC57xxPSIA board?

Hi Damian,

Thanks for the note on the 96kHz. The customer has advised that they were able to get analog working by disconnecting the SPDIF, changing the sample rate to 48kHz, then switching back to SPDIF input.

Please add a note in the EVM App Note: If the SPDIF is present, the EVM will use the SPDIF sample rate for the analog input, even when the data is not configured to pass through.

Can you confirm this?

Hi Jason,

Looking at the schematic for the MC57XXPSIA board the DIR9001 provide the I2S clocks for the board. The PCM1808 ADC for analog input also runs of the DIR9001 I2C clock. If SPDIF is used the I2S clocks generated by DIR9001 will default to the SPDIF signal.

I was able to verify this as well. The root cause is unsupported Fs provided to TAS5711 on SPDIF port.
