Hello,

 

I am currently using the TLV320AIC3254 and would like to lower its consumption while keeping “good” performances.

At the moment the two DSP A and D are used (and no processing block) and the powertune mode is set by default (so PTM_R4 and PTM_P3/4).

When setting  PTM_R2 and PTM_P2 the current consumption of the codec decreases while the performances seems quite similar.

 When setting  PTM_R1 and PTM_P1 the current consumption of the codec decreases greatly but the audio quality becomes too low.

 

So my question is :

In my case, what exactly is modified when changing the PowerTune mode of the codec?

     Hello,

    Looking at the datasheet the PowerTune is adjusting the full scale signal swing, gain, and common mode voltage range of the ADC and DAC. So I would assume it is playing the bias points of the analog stages to save power if your input signal meets the specifications for each PowerTune mode.

    In PTM_R1 the input may be clipping since the RTM_R# is adjusting ADC power, thus reducing acceptable rage of the input and common mode voltage. Try reducing the amplitude of the input signal.

    RTM_P# is the DAC output and gain control. RTM_P1 puts the gain at 12dB so at this point, the output could be clipping if the input it too large.
