AIC3254 with amplifier

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3254, TPA2005D1

Hi,

I would like to connect TPA2005D1 class-D mono amplifier to TLV320AIC3254 line outputs.

I have some doubt, because in AIC3254 datasheet I found that information:

"The stereo line level drivers on LOL and LOR pins can drive a wide range of line level resistive

impedances in the range of 600Ω to 10kΩ."

and in TPA2005D1 there is information that Input impedance is 150kOhms.

Can I connect this amp to codec? Am I misunderstanding something?

Thanks for any answer:)

  • Hello Nirg,

I imagine you would be fine connecting the two device together but let me go double check this for you.

I'll get back to you ASAP,

    Nate

  • I drew some schematic.

TPA2005D1 input filter is set to about 106Hz.

The gain is set to 2. Max output power I'd like to get is 500mW. Everything matches with documentation.

I doubt only about that input impedance.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Nirg,

Thank you for the extra information. I looked into this some more and the device can drive above a 10k load. The documentation is worded strangely, I think to show off compatibility with common line impedances, however, running a 150kohm load will work well. I actually expect the performance to be slightly higher with this higher input impedance.

Please let me know if you need anything else,

    Nate

  • Hello,

that is the answer I needed. Thank you very much.

  • My pleasure.

Just as an extra bit of information for you and the community. The only time you would need to worry about max input impedance of a device would be if the driving device (in this case the AIC3254) has detection circuitry. Some devices can detect if a line is attached, but really high impedances could be interpreted as an open (no connection). The AIC3254 has headphone detection but not line detection so this would not be a concern.

    Best regards,

    Nate
