PGA4311-how to calculate supply current requirement

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA4311

Hi,

I would like to know, how to calculate supply current  (In particular for -5V) requirement for PGA4311  IC.

Only information I have from data sheet is quiescent current is19 mA.

presently I have used UCC284-ADJ for -15 V to -5 V . It can drive 500mA . In my design I have used 12 PGA4311 ICs.

Now when I energise the board,  It is driving 6  PGA4311 ICs only.

If I energise all 12 PGA4311 IC's then -5V regulator is going in Pulsed mode of operation.

Kindly help me to calculate-5 V current requirements of Pga4311.

  • Hello Jagdish,

Based on the PGA4311 data sheet maximum specs, you should allow for 25mA quiescent current per device. This results in 300mA from IQ alone.

However, your load current can not be ignored. Calculate your maximum load current based on your maximum output voltage and minimum load resistance, then add that to your current budget.

For example, with a ±4V output swing and 600Ω load, your output current would be roughly 7mA per channel.
