Hi,

We are using the Mini-DSP in TLV320AIC3262 to generate a side-tone, the implementation is according to the figure below. We have measured a 6ms delay of the side-tone from microphone to speaker. This is a bit more than we expected. Could the delay be introduced by some buffering in the inter DSP communication or somewhere else in the implementation? If so, what do we need to change to get lower latency of the side-tone?

Hi Bjorn,

The delay should closer to 1ms or so for 48ksps. The interprocessor will introduce a delay of 1 sample.

Are you sampling at 8ksps? If so, then it makes sense to have a 6ms delay.

Hi,

Tanks for your answer. We are using the side-tone both for 48kHz and 8kHz sample rates. We use the patches generated by PurePath to switch between the sample rates. It is for 8kHz we measured the 6ms delay. I am not sure I understand why the delay should go from 1 to 6 ms when we change the sample rate. If the delay is one sample it should just increase from 1/48k seconds to 1/8k seconds. Could you pleas explain a bit more?

Hi Bjorn,

There are several sources of delay:

1. ADC decimation filter

2. DSP processing

3. DAC interpolation filter

4. Miscellanous delays

Items 1 and 3 are described in the TLV320AIC3262 documentation (search for group delay). Filter A is the same as Int8x and Dec4x. This will dominqte the delay in the system.
