Need Class-D TI chip suggestion

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3116D2

I need to drive the speakers (one for Left and other for right channel)-

Asking for suggested chip (Class-D) which will be best fit for these speakers

  • Hi, Roomi,

I am not sure what your input is, what features you need, etc, etc, so it's a little hard to recommend a device to you.

As a basic device, I would look at TPA3116D2.

    -d2

  • Thanks for your suggestion. I dont need any special feature, just need the basic amplifier with minimum external components (if possible filter free.)

My speaker is 8 ohms. but I can see TPA3116D2 is capable of supplying 50W into 4 ohm speaker. how it can be used with my speaker ?

  • Hi Roomi,

In general, higher impedance speakers will give you better performance (THD) from the amp.

However, due to the reduced drive current, the output power of the amp will decrease. You can counter that by increasing the voltage rail on the part (max 26V).

The TPA3116D2 datasheet gives you a nice overview on top of page 10. I also attached a screenshot for you below.

You can see the maximum output power over the power supply voltage. Left side is for 8 ohms load, right side for 4 ohms load.

    Best regards,

    Franziskus
