TPA3116D2 single side pcb layout

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3116D2, TPA3116D2EVM, TPA3130D2, TPA3130D2EVM

Hello,

Could you please help in building a stereo amplifier using TPA3116D2?

Looking at the documents here I could find the info of the evaluation board PCB but its looking to be dual side PCB.

Could you please share any recommended single side PCB layout for the same circuit?

I am planning to build it from scratch on a single side copper clad, and etch the circuit on it.

thanks and regards

S Sarath

  • Hi, Sarath,

This is a very bad idea! Why don't you just order one of our EVMs? http://www.ti.com/tool/tpa3116d2evm

We have a lower power version, called TPA3130D2, and it actually has a single-sided EVM. http://www.ti.com/tool/TPA3130D2EVM. This is pin-to-pin compatible with the TPA3116D2. You would need to add an external heat sink to this guy.

  • Hi Don, So can we follow the pcb layout of this low powered amp for TPA3116 also , build circuit for tpa3116 with its components ? Currently thinking to build an amp from the scratch from the pcb .. Thanks and regards S Sarath
  • Hi, Sarath,

Sure, you can certainly do that!

My only warning is, you won't be able to achieve the data sheet performance (THD, noise) using a single-sided PCB. This device is a high-performance class-D amplifier, and really works best when a double-sided PCB with a good ground plane is used.
