does TPA3116D2 needs a preamplifier

Hello,

could you please tell if for TPA3116d2 chip, do we need a pre amplifier circuit , for using it for TV, mobile CD/DVD player as sources or we can directly source it with these sources?

    Sarath,

    TPA3116D2 doesn't require a preamp. You will have to decide that based on the signal level of your audio source, output power require, the output common mode voltage of your audio source and load drive capability of the audio source.

    TPA3116D2 min input impedance is 9kohms, which most line/headphone drivers can handle. You may need DC blocking caps for the inputs to AC couple the output of the audio source to the input of the TPA3116D2. That will resolve the common mode mismatch between input audio source and TPA3116D2 and also prevent harmful DC signals from getting to the speakers. The size of the DC blocking cap C = 1/(2 * pi* Rin* f); where f is the corner frequency of the input high pass filter and Rin is the input impedance of TPA3116D2 based on the gain selected (page 15 in datasheet).
