Active Volume Control for Professional Audio

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA1602, OPA1604

LS,

With great interest I read the article about Active Volume Control for Professional Audio.

I like to build this audio control, but would like to make a prototype first using through hole components. What components would be recommended?

Particularly I would like to know what capacitors to use, and what the DIP version of the opamp is I should use.

Thanks in advance.

Groet,

Wim

Active Volume Control for Professional Audio

  • Hello Wim,

Thank you for your interest in my TI Precision Design for active volume control.

Unfortunately the OPA1604 is not offerred in a DIP package, but you could use two OPA1602 devices (same op amp in a dual package) in the 8-pin SOIC package and install them on the DIP-ADAPTER-EVM.

The most critical capacitor in the signal path is C5 in the input filter. This cap must be of dielectric type C0G/NP0. Here's a suitable through-hole replacement:

The other capacitors should be of dielectric type X7R. You can select through-hole replacements using this query: Capacitors, Ceramic, Through-hole, X7R
